Gregory Ritter

Gregory Ritter has served in senior staff and consulting positions in the development, strategic planning, and Board training fields for over 30 years. His areas of expertise include capital and annual campaigns, major gift development, planned giving, office audits, staff search, and Board and staff training.

Before starting the Ritter Group, LLC in 2000, Gregory served as Director of Development for Family Hope Services in Minneapolis, Vice President for Institutional Advancement for Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Director of Development for Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and Vice President for Development for the Presbyterian Church Foundation in Louisville, Kentucky. As President of Professional Fundraising Services in Minneapolis, he served clients including the University of Minnesota, Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota, Presbyterian Homes of Minnesota, and the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota. He began his fund raising career as Vice President for Development at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.

Gregory holds an Associate of Liberal Arts degree and Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.

When asked about the failure of so many fundraising letters, he notes that significant giving is the result of establishing personal connections. He chuckles at the observation of a colleague in North Dakota, “I’ve never seen a cow give milk in response to a letter.”
